Getting to Kangaroo Island
Everything you need to know about getting to the island - and getting around once you're here.
Kangaroo Island is located 112 kilometres southwest of Adelaide. The island is approximately 150 kilometres long and 50 kilometres wide. Transport to Kangaroo Island is available via ferry with Sealink or by air with Qantas. Please note there are no public transport facilities on Kangaroo Island. Once you arrive, Kangaroo Island Tours and Bus Charters can assist with all your transfer and transport needs - from the airport or ferry terminal to your accommodation, and everywhere in between.

The most popular way to get to Kangaroo Island is by ferry with Sealink. Ferries run between Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula and Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes. Sealink also offers coach connections from Adelaide to Cape Jervis if you are travelling without a car.
If you are travelling from Adelaide without a car, York Peninsula Coaches operates a coach service connecting Adelaide to Cape Jervis, where you can board the Sealink ferry to Kangaroo Island. Check their website for current timetables and bookings.

Qantas operates regular flights between Adelaide and Kingscote Airport on Kangaroo Island. Flying is the fastest way to get to the island and suits those with limited time or those looking to avoid the ferry crossing. Check the Qantas website for current schedules and fares.
There are no buses, taxis or rideshare services on Kangaroo Island. Once you arrive, you will need your own vehicle or a private transfer to get around. Kangaroo Island Tours and Bus Charters provides airport transfers, ferry terminal pickups, accommodation drop-offs and transport to all tours and attractions across the island.
Once you are on the island, distances can be larger than they appear. Kingscote is the main township and the island's hub, but many of the key attractions - Seal Bay, Remarkable Rocks, Flinders Chase National Park - are on the south and west coast, up to 90 minutes drive from Penneshaw. If you are not hiring a car, Kangaroo Island Tours and Bus Charters can take you anywhere you need to go - transfers between townships, guided day tours, private hire, and chartered minibuses for groups.
